Maroons stars reveal inspiration behind stirring win
Queensland debutant Keilee Joseph is named the player of the match.
“Getting this on debut and with the win as well is just amazing. I was very, very nervous, but once I got that first run in I was fine,” she told Nine.
She’s got ‘nanny’ and ‘poppy’ taped on her wrists and says she played for her two grandparents, revealing that her grandfather is “not doing too well” at the moment.
Queensland skipper Ali Brigginshaw revealed a pre-game message that may have lit a fire under Joseph before her debut.
A middle on debut, young, got hit quite a few times and just got back up, I think that’s impressive,” she said.
“I spoke to her before the game and said, ‘You don’t want to be a one-game player, you want to be 10 years’, so I wanted her to set her standards and set a legacy for that jersey and she did that tonight.”
