Why aren’t the Phillies wearing their cream-colored home uniforms? Supply chain issues to blame, team says

by Adam Said April 11, 2022

Everything seemed normal when the Phillies took the field against the Athletics on Sunday afternoon. Well, everything except their uniforms.

Typically, the Phillies wear their cream-colored home uniforms on Sundays. Adorned with accents of blue and red, they are among the league’s most popular uniforms.

Yet, those jerseys were nowhere to be found on the field. Instead, the Phillies were decked out in their red-pinstripe uniforms.

The fanbase took notice.

If we’re being honest, the red pinstripes should be the alternates. Cream jerseys are by far the best the Phillies have. https://t.co/3Ea1dP2bs0

That’s not good. The cream Phillies jersey are my favorite style the team wears. https://t.co/JwfI2qihq2

Why are the Phillies wearing pinstripes and not cream Sunday jerseys!?

So, what happened to the Phillies’ cream-colored uniforms? Well, according to a report by MLB.com’s Todd Zolecki, the issue comes from the supply side.

MLB’s supplier, Fanatics, did not get the Phillies’ cream uniforms, or the powder-blue ones they usually wear on Thursdays, to the team in time for the opening weekend of the season.

“They weren’t able to deliver the uniforms in time,” team executive vice president Dave Buck told MLB.com Sunday. “It’s a shame because our fans really like them. But the supplier [Fanatics] is backed up and doing the best they can.”

According to Fanatics’ website, the company is experiencing a host of delays across parts of the U.S. due to “unforeseen circumstances.” For fans, that means expecting to receive jerseys and other team apparel two business days later than originally estimated.

To date, Buck doesn’t know when the issue will be resolved. So, in the meantime, fans and players alike better get used to the red pinstripes.

As long as they keep winning, as they did in taking two of three from the A’s over the weekend, it shouldn’t be too much of a problem, though.
