The professionalized household waste collection rate at 95% in 2019
The professionalized household waste collection rate reached 95% in 2019 compared to 44% in 2008, indicates the High Commission for Planning (HCP) in a report on “the Sustainable Development Goals in Morocco in the context of Covid-19 “.
“In terms of achievements in 2019, the professionalized collection rate of this waste reached 95% compared to 44% in 2008, while the landfill rate was 63% compared to 11% in 2008”specifies the national report for the year 2021. The country has worked to strengthen the legislative and institutional frameworks aimed at supervising and encouraging the improvement of waste collection, management and treatment systems, explains the report which assesses , based on the results of studies and statistical surveys carried out by the HCP since the start of the health crisis, the impact of the pandemic on certain dimensions of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The recorded recycling rate is 10% against only 6% in 2015, notes the document, adding that during the same year, 26 controlled landfills and Landfill and recovery centers (CEV) are set up according to the regulations in force while others are being planned. “A capital importance has been given to the proper management of household waste, which is based on the National Household Waste Program (PNDM)”, notes the report which notes, by major area of sustainable development, the efforts made by the various departments. to include their activities in the implementation of the SDGs by 2030.
The National Waste Recovery Program also represents the continuity of the PNDM which includes among its objectives the development of sorting, recycling and recovery of waste, said the same source. Similarly, several agreements have been signed for the construction of waste sorting and recovery centers at controlled landfills, as well as for the organization and implementation of channels for the recovery of used batteries, used tires, used lubricating oils, used paper and cardboard and used cooking oils, notes the HCP, raising the financing of the campaign to collect and dispose of plastic bags.
The national report on the implementation of the SDGs is part of the application of the provisions of United Nations resolution 70/1 “Transforming our world: the 2030 agenda for sustainable development” and its invitation to the Member States of the United Nations, in its paragraph 79, to “carry out regular reviews of the progress made in the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals”, writes the High Commissioner for Planning, Ahmed Lahlimi in the introduction of the book. This report also responds to the provisions of Decree No. 2.19.452 of July 17, 2019 setting the organization of the National Commission for Sustainable Development and its article 9 which assigns the HCP the mission of establishing national reports on the SDGs in consultation with this commission, according to Ahmed Lahlimi.
