The Moroccan government sees with a “positive” eye the arrival of Pedro Sanchez in Morocco
The Moroccan government views the arrival of Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez in Morocco from a “positive point of view”, government spokesman Mustapha Baitas said on Thursday.
“The head of the Spanish government will be received today in our country by His Majesty the King and obviously the subject of (bilateral) relations the government can only see from a positive point of view”, indicated the spokesperson. of the executive during a press briefing following the government council.
“I hope this will be the beginning of real relations, based on mutual respect and full coordination in all matters (of common interest),” added the official in response to questions from journalists on site.
The Spanish head of government, the socialist Pedro Sanchez is expected Thursday in Rabat, accompanied by the head of Spanish diplomacy Juan Manuel Albares, to mark the end of a major diplomatic crisis between Morocco and Spain and the opening of a new page of bilateral relations.
Pedro Sanchez should be welcomed by King Mohammed VI and share an Iftar at the end of the day, at the royal invitation, marking a gesture of friendship towards the head of government who sent a letter addressed to the sovereign in which he recognizes the importance of the question of the Sahara for Morocco.
The diplomatic crisis between the two countries was triggered following the reception last April of the leader of the Sahrawi separatists in secret in Spain. After almost a year of diplomatic quarrel, the two countries are preparing to open a new “unprecedented” stage in their bilateral relations.
King Mohammed VI had expressed the wish to open a new era in Morocco-Spain relations which are based, among other things, on trust, transparency, mutual consideration and respect for commitments.
