Report: Celtics’ Williams close to return
Boston Celtics centre Robert Williams is reportedly nearing a return and could play as soon as Game 3 vs. the Brooklyn Nets, The Athletic’s Shams Charania reports.
Williams suffered a meniscus tear that ended his regular season after averaging 10 points and 9.6 rebounds per game for the Celtics this year, including back-to-back double-doubles against Utah and Minnesota in his final two games in late March
A defensive anchor for the Celtics, Williams ranked second in the league with 2.2 blocks per game at the time of his injury, and was a key switch defender as he regularly guarded power forwards while Al Horford posted up in the paint.
One of the best rim protectors in the league, Williams could potentially return to boost the Celtics as they head to Brooklyn up 2-0 in their series against the Nets.
