Real Madrid vs. Getafe live score, updates, highlights & lineups from La Liga match
Real Madrid look to extend their lead atop La Liga back to double digits with a home win against Getafe, with an eye toward Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League second leg against Chelsea, also at home at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Los Merengues currently hold a nine-point lead over second-place Sevilla, while archrivals Barcelona will have two games in hand and could move even closer to Real Madrid. Carlo Ancelotti’s men will want to avoid any title suspense with a home win against Getafe.
The visitors are in 14th place in La Liga, but they are only four points away from the drop zone and will need to keep adding points until the final matchday. A point at the Santiago Bernabeu would feel like a victory for Getafe with four of their last seven matches to be played at home.
Getafe pulled off the upset in the first match played on Jan. 2. Enes Unal scored an early goal and then Getafe withstood a 14-shot barrage and merely 26 percent possession to frustrate the league leaders on their way to a famous 1-0 win.
Sporting News will be following the match live and providing score updates, commentary and highlights as they happen.
