Mélenchon favorite of Muslim voters
Muslims in France voted more for the candidate of La France insoumise, Jean-Luc Mélenchon at 69% in the first round of the presidential election, according to an Ifop poll for La Croix published on Monday.
Catholics voted 29% for the outgoing president (against 27.5% for all French people), 27% for the candidate of the National Rally (23.3%), 10% for Eric Zemmour (7.1 %), and 7% for Valérie Pécresse (4.8%), according to this study.
The far-right candidates obtained 40%, if we add the votes in favor of Marine Le Pen, Eric Zemmour and Nicolas Dupont-Aignan (3%), more than all of the French (32.5%).
On the other hand, if we observe the vote of regular, occasional and non-practicing practitioners, the ballots in favor of Emmanuel Macron are, respectively, 25%, 29% and 31%. Marine Le Pen obtains respectively 21%, 26%, 29% of the votes, while the Reconquest candidate garners 16%, 10%, 7%.
Among Muslims, Jean-Luc Mélenchon is very far (69%) ahead of Emmanuel Macron (14%) then the RN candidate (7%).
The choice of Protestants fell first on the outgoing president (36%), then on Marine Le Pen (17%) and thirdly on Jean-Luc Mélenchon (16%), according to this study.
The survey was conducted on Sunday among 3,784 people registered on the electoral lists, from a sample of 4,066 people, representative of French people aged 18 and over, according to the quota method. Margin of error between 0.7 and 1.6 points.
In 2017, according to a previous Ifop poll, the entire Catholic electorate (practicing or not) had placed the LR candidate François Fillon at 28%, ahead of the candidate of En Marche! and the president of the FN tied at 22%.
Among Muslims, the candidate La France insoumise was already in the lead, at 37%.
The choice of Protestants fell on Emmanuel Macron in the first place, at 30%.
