Live updates: Earthquake kills more than 2,300 in Turkey, Syria; second massive quake follows
The 7.8 earthquake that rocked wide swaths of Turkey and nearby countries in the early hours of Monday, along with several powerful aftershocks, has caused widespread damage and killed hundreds of people.
In Turkey, as of Monday afternoon local time, at least 1,121 citizens had lost their lives in the southeastern province of Kahramanmaras, near the Syrian border, where the epicenter was located, as well as in Gaziantep and at least eight other provinces, according to the country’s disaster agency.
