NSW Blues coach Brad Fittler has revealed the next likely long-term State of Origin hooker.
North Queensland young gun Reece Robson looks set to benefit from his and the team’s form resurgence, as the Cowboys celebrate four straight wins.
Robson, 23, was a Dragons junior but was snapped up by the Cowboys as a teenager, and is now getting close to reaching the potential that many experts saw in him at junior level.
Fittler was asked on Nine’s Sunday Footy Show whether the young hooker is in Origin calculations.
“Yeah, he is a young kid… I think he’s the best of the ones coming through,” Fittler said.
“You’ve got Cooky (Damien Cook) obviously, Api Koroisau, then (Robson) is sitting right there with them.
“He makes 50 tackles a game, barely misses a tackle. He’s also dangerous, scores plenty of tries around dummy-half.”
Cook is the Blues incumbent and is unlikely to be usurped ahead of the 2022 series, beginning June 8 in Sydney.
