France-Presidential: Emmanuel Macron at the head of voting intentions but not immune
French President Emmanuel Macron is leading the voting intentions for the second round of the presidential election against the leader of the far right, Marine Le Pen, indicated polling institutes.
A few days before the second round of the presidential election, the French head of state appears to be the favorite to win the election against the head of the National Rally (formerly National Front).
According to polls by the Ifop and Ipsos-Sopra Steria institutes, the gap between the two candidates is widening in voting intentions.
The Ipsos barometer indicates on the basis of a sample of 1,500 registered voters that Emmanuel Macron would come first in voting intentions with 56%.
Marine Le Pen meanwhile, would collect 44% of the votes in the second round, according to data updated on April 18.
For Ifop, still according to results updated on April 18, Emmanuel Macron would win with a score of 54.5% against Marine Le Pen who would have 45.5% of the vote. The differences between the two polling institutes are almost two points but both give the advantage to Emmanuel Macron.
Nevertheless for the presidential camp, “the second round is not over”, according to several supporters of Emmanuel Macron who have warned of any risk of relaxation in the home stretch, especially since Marine Le Pen could take advantage of a possible lack of voters to pass.
For a large number of French people who did not vote for Emmanuel Macron in the first round, he nevertheless appears to be a favorite against Marine Le Pen. The French prefer it to the rise of the extreme right in France, which would be synonymous with clashes, hatred and an unstable France.
Because in the program of Marine Le Pen, the mentions of the national preference for employment and for social benefits, are subject to controversy given that it also aims to abolish dual nationality.
This would be tantamount to preferring French people to other French people or to foreigners living in France, or even eliminating them when they too would pay their taxes like everyone else.
On Monday, the president-candidate sent a message to people who would still hesitate to vote: “life in society is the fruit of compromise. In the second round, you eliminate”.
The president-candidate is not immune, neither to a forgery, nor to a significant mobilization of the anti-Macron electorate, nor to a strong abstention on the part of those who think that the election is already played.
“Think back to what British citizens were saying hours before Brexit or in the US before the Trump vote came: I’m not going, what’s the point? I can tell you that the next day they regretted it, ”he said Monday evening calling to go and vote.
