Carlos Corberan praises Huddersfield Town’s stand-in striker Fraizer Campbell
Carlos Corberan has praised Fraizer Campbell after the third-choice striker returned to the pitch to help Huddersfield get three points last week.
Thirty-four-year-old Fraizer Campbell was getting regular minutes for Huddersfield Town earlier this season. However, since Christmas he has not even had a place on the bench.
With Danny Ward ill for the match against Hull City last week however, Campbell was back on the bench and came on after 58 minutes, replacing Duane Holmes. Harry Toffolo then scored in the 79th minute, sealing a 1-0 win.

Explaining why Campbell has not been on the bench recently, Huddersfield manager Corberan said: “I have to select six players to go with the squad and be on the bench. Sometimes I conceded that for the balance between the positions and the needs that can happen in one game, yes we want a striker.
“Knowing that some of our wingers can pay as a striker too is more than enough to solve any need of the game. And it’s true that Danny Ward in the season has been the first-choice striker.
“[Jordan] Rhodes has been the second choice and Campbell has been the third choice. Depending on the needs of the game, the level of the player, these roles can move, but usually the players are keeping in these roles.”
However, despite being Corberan’s third choice up front, the Huddersfield boss was eager to praise Campbell. He said it was no surprise that Campbell was ready for action against Hull City.
Corberan said: “He’s been an exceptional example on the football training pitch because he was training with the same intensity that he was playing against Hull City, so for him to go and compete against Hull is not something new. It’s one habit that he creates every single time because when Campbell is on the football pitch you are going to see the same of Campbell.”
Danny Ward has recovered from illness now and should be available for the match against Luton Town on Monday. Kick-off will be at 7.45pm.
