A long rhythm that is part of a voluntary approach
Since the launch on July 1 of the injection of the fourth dose of the anti-covid vaccine for the benefit of vulnerable and elderly people, only 27,666 people have benefited from this booster dose on Tuesday August 2. A very long rhythm according to Pr Said Moutaouakil, who specifies that this is part of a voluntary approach.
Solicited by MoroccoLatestNews UK on this subject, Pr Said Moutaouakil, an anesthesiologist and member of the Scientific Committee for the fight against the pandemic, affirms that the rhythm of vaccination with D4 is very long in Morocco, but is part of a voluntary approach, of share of the people targeted, in particular the population at risk, who absolutely must be vaccinated.
“Now, will the entire target population respond to the ministry’s call for D4? We ignore it. But for the 3rd dose, we are barely approaching 7 million beneficiaries. It is therefore a fairly general problem in terms of the issue of anti-covid vaccination in the world and in Morocco in particular.“, he explained.
Speaking of Morocco, Professor Moutouakil believes that this refusal or even this skepticism observed among a segment of the population against anti-covid vaccination, began since the introduction of the vaccine pass, which according to him, “did not achieve the expected results“, in addition to the fact “that people are not adhering to vaccination at this time because of the easing of the current wave”.
How then, to encourage them to adhere to vaccination! According to the teacher and researcher, there is first “a problem of communication then of acceptability“, noting that”everything has been said in terms of communication about the vaccine. And it also goes without saying that the virus is less virulent, which makes people get used to living with it.“.
“You have to be objective. People expected that once vaccinated, we will be quiet permanently and if the virus will disappear and will be quiet permanently. This is not the case with this disease“, he says, noting that there is all the same a “kind of wearinessobserved among citizens.
On the question of the anti-covid vaccine which could become seasonal like that of the flu, Pr Moutouakil does not deny the probability of this hypothesis. But he still points out that:acquired immunity is not long lasting. That is, after a maximum of 8 months, immoral immunity begins to decline drastically“.
In this sense, the anesthesiologist-resuscitator estimated that it is not only the anti-covid vaccine to fight against the virus. There are also the rear measures, which are gradually disappearing, in particular the wearing of a mask while being sick or in front of a patient, or even in closed places.
“Its basic hygiene measures are important in this context. Then, it is also necessary to be treated quickly, once reached. For the vaccine, it obviously remains important especially for very vulnerable and fragile people, in particular diabetics and the elderly.“, he concluded.
A few days after the launch of D4, the Ministry of Health and Social Protection called for the urgent injection of a booster dose of the anti-Covid 19 vaccine, in order to increase the level of immunity.
Presenting the monthly assessment of the epidemic situation (08 June/04 July 2022), the coordinator of the National Center for Public Health Emergency Operations, Mouad Mrabet, indicated that the MSPS urges all people aged 60 and 18 and older, as well as people with chronic conditions to receive the booster dose, six months after receiving the 3rd dose.
This announcement came as Morocco has been going through the fourth wave of contamination of the SARS-CoV-2 virus and the second wave of Omicron for 6 weeks already. Reports from the National Genomics Watch Consortium had indicated that the Omicron mutant is still prevalent with two main sub-mutants (BA.5 70.5%) and (BA.2 23%), compared to 6% for the other sub-mutants .
