The Fourth of July and Joey Chestnut’s hot dog eating dominance have been synonymous with each other for the better part of the last two decades.
This year will be different, however, as Chestnut is banned from the 2024 Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest due a sponsorship dispute.

Nevertheless, the 16-time champion will be competing — albeit not in his signature event. He will be participating in his own hot dog eating contest at Fort Bliss, Texas, pitting his prowess against the combined efforts of four U.S. Army soldiers.
The absence of Chestnut from the traditional Fourth of July competition marks the end of an era. Since winning his first Nathan’s title in 2007, Chestnut has dominated the event, taking home the famed mustard belt in 16 of 17 years.

While the 40-year-old won’t vie for his ninth consecutive title this time around, he’ll still be downing franks on Independence Day.
Chestnut announced his alternative hot dog eating contest on social media on Tuesday, July 2. The competition will raise money for military families.
This 4th will be a little different, but I’ll still be eating a whole lot of all-beef hot dogs!🌭🇺🇸🌭🇺🇸
I’m stoked to be going to Ft. Bliss, where I’ll be eating against four of their finest soldiers.
