ST. JOHN’S, Canada — Newfoundland and Labrador has issued 131 invitations to prospective immigrants in its latest selection round, offering eligible candidates an opportunity to advance their applications through two Canadian economic immigration programs.

The invitations were issued on October 9, according to provincial immigration selection figures. Of the total, 130 went to candidates under the Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Nominee Program (NLPNP), while one was issued through the Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP).

The latest round was considerably larger than the province’s previous selection on September 25, when 41 candidates received invitations. It was also the largest round since August 26, when 140 invitations were issued.

The results highlight the continuing role of provincial immigration programs in attracting workers to Newfoundland and Labrador, even as Canada adjusts its broader immigration policies.

Under the provincial nominee program, Newfoundland and Labrador can select candidates whose skills and experience meet its economic and labour market needs. Successful applicants may subsequently pursue permanent residence through the federal immigration system.

The Atlantic Immigration Program provides another pathway for eligible skilled workers and international graduates who wish to settle in one of Canada’s four Atlantic provinces. The program is employer-driven and generally requires a qualifying job offer from a designated employer.

Since February 2025, Newfoundland and Labrador has used an Expression of Interest system to manage candidate selection under both programs.

Prospective applicants first submit an expression of interest, allowing provincial authorities to assess their profiles before issuing invitations in periodic selection rounds.

Receiving an invitation does not mean that permanent residence has been approved. Selected candidates must still complete the relevant application procedures and meet provincial and federal immigration requirements.

The province has not published a minimum selection score or an occupation-by-occupation breakdown for the October 9 round.

According to published selection figures, Newfoundland and Labrador has issued 2,826 invitations across 17 rounds so far in 2026. These include 2,430 invitations under the provincial nominee program and 396 through the Atlantic Immigration Program.

For foreign workers and prospective immigrants, including Arabic-speaking applicants interested in settling in Atlantic Canada, the latest round illustrates the importance of monitoring provincial selection opportunities alongside federal immigration programs.

However, eligibility depends on individual circumstances, including employment qualifications, immigration status and the requirements of the relevant program.

Applicants should consult Newfoundland and Labrador’s official immigration website for current eligibility rules and application instructions before submitting documents or making financial commitments.

The province has not announced a date for its next selection round.
