Winner’s shock admission to wife during Masters
Newly minted Masters champion Scottie Scheffler has revealed the candid admission he made to his wife hours before winning the famous green jacket.
Scheffler held a three-shot lead over Australia’s Cameron Smith heading into the fourth round at Augusta National.
And while the American double-bogeyed the final hole, he still finished three shots ahead of second-placed Rory McIlroy – who had played an astonishing fourth round to pip Smith to runner-up.

It wasn’t until after he had donned the green jacket that the champion revealed just how nervous he was ahead of the final round.
He was asked how he had coped being the 54-hole leader at the most prestigious tournament on tour.
“Last night was pretty easy. I was tired,” Scheffler told media.
“We went and got some food, I spilled my dinner in the car on the way home… that was extremely frustrating. You can see (my wife) Meredith is still laughing at me.
“This morning was a totally different thing. I cried like a baby this morning.
“I was so stressed out. I didn’t know what to do.
“I was sitting there telling Meredith ‘I don’t think I’m ready for this. I don’t feel like I’m ready for this kind of stuff’.
“I just felt overwhelmed. She told me ‘who are you to say that you’re not ready?’.
“So we talked about (how) God is in control, the lord is leading me. If today is my time then it is my time.
“Gosh, it was a long morning.”
Scheffler was asked why he had such a meltdown, when typically he is a calm and cool character on the course.
“I think because it’s the Masters,” he said.
“I’ve dreamed of having a chance to play in this tournament. I teared up the first time I got my invitation in the mail.
“I love this place. I love this golf course.”
