Ukraine war: Germany finally set to send heavy weapons to Kyiv

Germany is expected to finally authorise the delivery of heavy weapons to Ukraine after weeks of dithering that has dented its reputation on the world stage and led to questions about its commitment to European security.
Government sources told AFP on Tuesday that Olaf Scholz will authorise the delivery of ‘tanks’ to Ukraine, with an announcement due at a meeting of foreign ministers taking place at Ramstein air base later today.
Separately, German media reported that the country will send Gepard anti-aircraft systems to aid in the war against Russia – though it was not immediately clear whether that is included in, or separate to, the ‘tanks’ pledge.
