Tyson Fury purse history: How much does heavyweight world champion make?

In the ring, Tyson Fury has become a dominant heavyweight who can dish out punishment as well as he can take it. Outside of it, the WBC heavyweight champion’s portfolio continues to rise. 

A lineal champion, Fury will defend the WBC heavyweight title against Dillian Whyte on April 23 inside Wembley Stadium. He will be earning a big payday from the fight before pay-per-view points. Fury has benefited from past performances in the ring as well as endorsements beyond it. 

The Sporting News looks into how Fury has accumulated his fortune and where he stands among the wealthiest athletes in the world.

Tyson Fury’s net worth: How much does Fury make? 

According to Celebrity Net Worth, Fury’s fortune was roughly around $30 million in 2021 and was around $57 million in 2020. 

In total, Tyson Fury made about $54 million in 2021. He did pay himself about $94,700, according to The Sun.

In the two fights before his career-defining win over Wladimir Klitschko, Fury made over $12 million in his second fight against Dereck Chisora in 2014. He then made over $5 million against Christian Hammer in 2015. Against Klitschko, Fury beat the Ukrainian for the WBA, IBF, WBO, IBO, and The Ring heavyweight titles. He made over $7 million for that fight. 

After taking a few years away from the ring due to drug and alcohol problems, Fury returned in June 2018 to face Sefer Seferi. In a fight he won in the fourth round, Fury made about $2 million.

That same year, Fury faced off against Wilder for the WBC heavyweight title. The fight, a draw, was remembered for Fury getting back up in the twelfth round after a brutal knockdown blow by Wilder. Fury made a guaranteed purse of $3 million. With the event earning one million pay-per-view buys, Fury would earn around $10.25 million.

Between the first and second Wilder fight, Fury fought Otto Wallin and Tom Schwartz. Against Schwartz, which Fury beat him via TKO in the second round, Fury earned $9 million. Against Otto Wallin, Fury earned $13 and 47 stitches. 

The rematch between Fury and Wilder saw Fury guaranteed a purse of $5 million. Both fighters ended up earning $25 million each from pay-per-view receipts. Fury would beat Wilder via TKO when his corner threw in the towel, winning the WBC heavyweight title in the process. In the trilogy fight, Fury won via knockout. He made about $10-$13 million. That total increased to about $27 million with pay-per-view sales.

The WBC ordered that Tyson Fury take an 80/20 split of the purse against Dillian Whyte. In total, that would be around $29 – $32 million. 

Tyson Fury’s Endorsements

Fury’s main sponsor is WOW Hydrate, a sports drink brand focused on fitness hydration.

Back in 2019, Fury signed a deal with ESPN, the network of Top Rank, for over $100 million. 

Fury was also sponsored by Fashion Nova during his fights with Wilder. Fashion Nova, around since 2006, is an American retail organization that sells a variety of clothing. 

“The Gypsy King” also has a website that features his own line of t-shirts, polo shirts, gym vests, kids wear, and signed memorabilia. Known for being fashionable, Fury has sold shirts for around $45, per The Sun. 

Tyson Fury’s social media influence

Fury is one of the most active boxers on social media. He utilizes Instagram Live and Twitter to broadcast messages of hope and exercise routines. Fury also uses it to call out heavyweight opponents of his.

As of March 2022, Fury has over 5.4 million followers on Instagram, 2.1 million followers on Twitter, and 2 million followers on Facebook. 

Tyson Fury charities

Over the years, Fury has given back to the community. In 2019, Fury donated $13 million to charity following his fight against Deontay Wilder. 

“I did give away my last purse but I don’t do charity work for a pat on the back,” Fury told the WBC. “I do it to help people but I do not wait praise for it. I don’t want to be called a do-gooder.”

Fury is also an ambassador for The Frank Bruno Foundation. Former WBC heavyweight champion Frank Bruno helped form the organization to improve the mental health of those around the world, following his own battle with mental health. Fury also created the Tyson Fury Foundation not long ago.
