Young voters voted mostly for Jean-Luc Mélenchon in Sunday’s first round, while pensioners backed incumbent President Emmanuel Macron. The candidate of the extreme right, Marine Le Pen wins in the age groups between 25 and 49 years, indicate the polling institutes.

More than a third (34.8%) of young people between the ages of 18 and 24 chose to vote for Jean-Luc Mélenchon in the first round, followed by Emmanuel Macron (24.3%) and Marine Le Pen (18%). indicates the sociological analysis carried out by the Harris Interactive Institute for CNews and Europe 1.

Conversely, Emmanuel Macron is largely in the lead among those aged 65 and over, with 37.5% of the vote, far ahead of the candidate of the National Rally (18.1%) and rebellious France (11.3%) .

He is also the most supported candidate among 50-64 year olds (28.1%), ahead of the RN candidate (27%) and the Insoumis (18.2%).

The RN in the lead among 25-49 year olds

For her part, Marine Le Pen comes first with 30% among 25-34 year olds and 28.8% among 35-49 year olds.

Jean-Luc Mélenchon reached 27.8% among 25-34 year olds, but fell below 20% among 35-49 year olds (19.8%).

The 25-34 age group is the one that supports Emmanuel Macron the least (19.3%), but it goes back to the 35-49 age group (26.6%).
