The gorgeous chocolate box village named South Yorkshire’s best place to live
A gorgeous village described as ‘a bobby dazzler’ by the Sunday Times has been named the best place to live in South Yorkshire.
Cawthorne, in Barnsley, has made it on to the Sunday Times’ Best Places to Live 2022 list with the village’s outstanding Cawthorne C of E (VC) Primary School and nearby Cannon Hall and Cannon Hall Farm cited as reasons for its inclusion.
The guide described the village as ‘prosperous and pleasant’ and said: “A quirk of the road network keeps Cawthorne quiet.”

Cawthorne, top of the wish list for many people in South Yorkshire, has all the best trappings of village life from a picturesque cricket pitch to a village hall used used for numerous activities.
The Sunday Times’ guide said: “The no-nonsense folk in Barnsley will tell you that S36, three miles to the west, is where the go-getting families go as soon as they can afford it.”
It said Lane Head and Bark House Lane are the best places to live. Average house prices are around £414,000.
