Tennessee Titans predicted to be suitor for $100 million wide receiver
The Tennessee Titans entered the 2024 offseason with a major question mark at the wide receiver position, as the team’s only reliable target was DeAndre Hopkins.
Tennessee filled their need with a few moves, signing both Calvin Ridley and Tyler Boyd in free agency. But the Titans’ wide receivers room took a hit after the team traded Hopkins to the Kansas City Chiefs.
Now, the Titans are back in the same position and will have to address wide receiver in the 2025 offseason. Ridley will be under contract next year, but Boyd will be an unrestricted free agent. Even if he returns, the Titans need more.
With that in mind, Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox believes the Titans could make a play for Buffalo Bills wide receiver Amari Cooper, who was traded at the deadline and is in the final year of a $100 million contract.
“Cooper would be an ideal target for a team looking to pair a savvy veteran with a young quarterback,” Knox wrote. “The Patriots could look to pair him with Drake Maye, while the Titans could look to pair him with a quarterback they target early in the 2025 draft.”
Whether the Titans stick with a struggling Will Levis or roll with a different signal-caller they draft in 2025, the team needs more weapons. Cooper would offer a stopgap option if the Titans don’t want to rely on the draft to bring one in.
A five-time Pro Bowler, Cooper has been a consistently productive receiver during his career, with seven 1,000-yard seasons under his belt. Assuming he can continue playing at a high level, he would be a strong No. 2 option to pair with Ridley.
But he does come with some risk. Cooper will be 31 next year and there’s no telling if he’ll start to decline. If the Titans do decide to make a play for Cooper, it should be on a one-year deal. However, the Titans should really be looking to get younger at the position.
