Sweden beats Canada to win gold at world men’s curling championship
Sweden’s Niklas Edin prevailed over Canada’s Brad Gushue to capture gold at the world men’s curling championship in Las Vegas.
Gushue and his St. John’s-based team of Mark Nichols, Brett Gallant and Geoff Walker were the No. 1 seed in the tournament and previously won the championship in 2017. The Canadian rink won bronze at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics and finished second in the 2018 world championship, losing to Sweden.
Edin reached the final after beating Italy’s Joel Retornaz in the other semifinal. Sweden is the reigning Olympic champion and Edin has now won six world titles during his career.
