Postponement of the trial of activist Saida El Alami to April 15

The trial of Moroccan human rights activist Saïda Al Alami, who has been in detention for three weeks, has been postponed to 15 April.

Activist Saïda Al Alami was arrested on March 23 in Casablanca, following her posts on social networks, in particular a post on Facebook which was the subject of a lawsuit for “insulting a body regulated by law” , “insulting public officials in the performance of their duties”, disregarding judicial decisions and “disseminating and distributing false allegations without agreement”, under the terms of articles 265, 263, 266 and 2-477 of the Criminal Code, respectively.

For his part, the activist’s lawyer said that the Casablanca court of first instance decided last Friday to postpone her trial for the second time to April 15, at her request in order to “prepare the defense”. A request for provisional release has been submitted to the court, which has not yet rendered its decision on this subject, according to the lawyer.
