PHF names USA Hockey executive Reagan Carey as next commissioner
Reagan Carey, a long-time executive with USA Hockey, has been appointed the next commissioner of the Premier Hockey Federation.
Carey replaces Tyler Tumminia, who served in the role for two seasons.
“Throughout my career, I have been fortunate and honoured to have played a part in growing and improving the landscape of women’s hockey at all levels,” said Carey in a statement. “I continue to be energized and committed to moving the needle in the right direction and will be dedicated to the work required to build trust and elevate the PHF into a beacon for professional women’s hockey.”
Carey worked for USA Hockey from 2010-18, serving as Director of Women’s Ice Hockey. She was also the general manager of the U.S. National Women’s team, constructing the group that won gold at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games.
More recently she has worked as a speaker and consultant, sharing her leadership experiences with the sports and corporate worlds. Before joining USA Hockey Carey worked for a decade with the NBA’s Atlanta Hawks and NHL’s Atlanta Thrashers focusing on sports development, performance and marketing.
“I’m excited for the opportunity to continue making history with a relentless pursuit of success on all fronts,” Carey said. “Through our work we will aim to honour past pioneers of our sport, and inspire young girls to see a vibrant future in the game by ensuring that athletes who want to train and compete at the highest professional levels will always have a home at the PHF.”
The PHF, formerly the National Women’s Hockey League, is entering its eighth season. Free agency for the 2022-23 season opens on May 1 with teams working under a record $750,000 salary cap.
