Patriots vs. Bears final score, instant analysis from New England’s two-score win
The New England Patriots traveled to Illinois this weekend for a Week 10 battle against the Chicago Bears on Sunday at Soldier Field, and Jerod Mayo’s team earned their third win of the season with a 19-3 victory.
New England’s offense wasn’t overly impressive in this game.
Rookie quarterback Drake Maye completed 60% of his passes for 184 yards with a touchdown and an interception. The touchdown pass, which went to Ja’Lynn Pollk from just two yards out, was as easy as they come while the interception was arguably his worst this year.
Maye hit second-year wideouts DeMario Douglas and Kasyhon Boutte on eight completions for 97 yards on 11 targets. Austin Hooper also caught three passes for 64 yards while Polk, Hunter Henry, JaMycal Hasty and Rhamondre Stevenson all caught one pass each.
The Patriots rushed for 144 total yards on 4.1 yards per attempt with Stevenson leading with way with 74 yards on 3.7 yards per attempt.
However, they were able to set Joey Slye up for four field goals from inside 38 yards, and the veteran kicker made all four attempts.
DeMarcus Covington’s defense looked like a different unit, as they confused first-overall pick Caleb Williams frequently throughout the game.
The rookie completed just 53.3% of his passes for 120 yards while taking nine sacks. This is the first time that New England recorded at least nine sacks since 2022. It’s also the second-most in franchise history behind their 11-sack performance against the Oakland Raiders in 1963.
Here’s how the sacks broke down:
- LB Anfernee Jennings: 2
- DE Deatrich Wise Jr: 2
- LB Jahlani Tavai: 1
- DL Jeremiah Pharms Jr: 1
- DE Keion White: 1
- DB Dell Pettus: 1
- DB Brenden Schooler: 1
The Patriots also stifled Chicago’s rushing attack, as D’Andre Swift and Roschon Johnson rushed for just 55 yards on 3.2 yards per rush.
After moving to 3-7, New England will host the Los Angeles Rams at Gillette Stadium next Sunday.
