Patriots add former Pro Bowl edge rusher ahead of battle with Bears
The New England Patriots have had a hard time getting to the quarterback this year after moving on from Matthew Judon before the season starter and Joshua Uche around the trade deadline.
Now, New England is adding some help, as they’ve claimed defensive end Yannick Ngakoue off of waivers, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
Ngakoue, 29, played collegiately at Maryland where he was First-team All-Big Ten in 2015. The Jacksonville Jaguars selected him in the third round of the 2016 NFL draft.
Ngakoue spent four seasons with Jacksonville (making a Pro Bowl and leading the league in forced fumbles in 2017), but since then, he’s bounced around the league, spending time with the Minnesota Vikings, Baltimore Ravens, Las Vegas Raiders, Indianapolis Colts, Chicago Bears and Baltimore Ravens since 2020.
In five games with Baltimore this year, he played just 25% of the team’s defensive snaps and recorded five tackles, four quarterback hits and 1.5 sacks.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on Thursday that the Ravens wanted him back on the practice squad if he cleared waivers.
