Opening of maritime lines from Tuesday for passengers without vehicles

Within the framework of the opening of the maritime borders between Morocco and Spain, the Port Authority of Algeciras announced the opening, as of tomorrow Tuesday April 12, of the maritime lines of the port of Algeciras towards Morocco for the passengers without vehicles, while passengers with vehicles will be able to benefit from the crossing from Monday 18 April.

This Monday, April 11, the Port Authority of Algeciras announced on its website the opening of shipping lines, for passengers without vehicles, from tomorrow, from the port of Algeciras to the port of Tangier-Med and from the port of Tarifa at the port of Tanger-Ville.

For passengers with vehicles, shipping lines will be open from Monday 18 April. Passengers must therefore have a confirmed ticket and a PCR test dated less than 72 hours or a vaccination pass.

Moreover, and in the context of the imminent restoration of maritime links, and pending the adoption of a uniform health protocol for access to national territory, the Ministry of Health had sent a note to the Director of Merchant Marine to the Ministry of Transport and Logistics, to inform them of the temporary arrangements for maritime travel.

The Ministry of Health has thus called on the Director of the Merchant Navy to adopt the passenger’s health form, downloadable online, before boarding (also distributed on board the ship) duly completed, an anti-covid vaccination passport valid according to the requirements of the country of origin (residents in Morocco, Moroccans or foreigners, must have a valid vaccination pass according to the national vaccination protocol), or have a negative result of a PCR test less than 72 hours old.

The opening of maritime lines between Morocco and Spain comes after the official visit of the head of the Spanish executive, Pedro Sanchez, last Thursday in Rabat. The president of the Iberian government was received by King Mohammed VI at the Royal Palace in Rabat, as part of a new stage of partnership between the two Kingdoms.

At the end of the in-depth discussions on bilateral relations that took place between King Mohammed VI and Pedro Sanchez, the two partners issued a joint statement announcing the immediate and gradual restoration of passenger maritime links between the two countries until opening of all frequencies. In addition to the preparations for the Paso del Estrecho/Marhaba operation which will be started in the same perspective.
