NFL analyst blasts Kellen Moore, Eagles coaches for game plan vs. Buccaneers
The Philadelphia Eagles entered their Week 4 road game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers without three critical pieces of their offense — wide receivers A.J. Brown (hamstring) and DeVonta Smith (concussion), and right tackle Lane Johnson (concussion).
After watching the film, NFL analyst Dan Orlovsky came away extremely unimpressed with offensive coordinator Kellen Moore’s game plan.
Orlovsky unleashed a long rant on how the Eagles started the game offensively, breaking down plays along the way. He was especially fired up over quarterback Jalen Hurts dropping back to pass on seven of the Eagles’ first nine plays of the game.
“Poorly coached football team,” Orlovsky said with a scowl. “They go into a game, on the road, without A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith. They throw the football on seven of the first nine plays. You wonder why you’re down 21-0?”
Orlovsky went on to question Hurts’ fundamentals on some simple play concepts, as you can see here:

Orlovsky questioned everything in those 2 minutes, from the play calling, to the quarterback play, to the blocking concepts up front. He specifically singled out Hurts for two plays where he did the wrong thing, but stopped short of blaming the player.
“It’s either he’s doing it and he’s been coached improperly,” Orlovsky said, “or he’s not taking the coaching.”
This commentary is a terrible look for the Eagles. This isn’t some hot take artist, like Skip Bayless. trashing the team’s entire offensive approach to a big NFC road game. This is Orlovsky, a former NFL quarterback who actually watches the film. He gives informed, candid feedback, often with evidence to back it up.
Philly should be able to get Brown, Smith and Johnson back in the lineup with two weeks to rest up and get ready for their Oct. 13 home game against the Cleveland Browns. But the outside noise will only get louder until the Eagles prove they can put a tighter operation on the field.
