Masters 2022 results, highlights: Scottie Scheffler maintains lead after Round 3 with Cameron Smith in pursuit
There was quite a lot of movement on moving day at the 2022 Masters, but most of the star-studded field was headed in the wrong direction.
Unseasonably cool weather and consistent wind greatly impacted the 52 players who took the course Saturday. Sixteen players recorded rounds of 5 over par or worse in Round 3; as a result, just seven players are under par for the tournament after 54 holes.
Scottie Scheffler didn’t seem fazed by the conditions, though. The 36-hole leader and world No. 1-ranked player had an up-and-down round but ultimately finished at 1 under, tied for the third-best round of the day. He maintained his lead, though it was cut to three strokes from five, as Cameron Smith shot a 4-under 68 to move into second place at 6 under for the tournament.
Tiger Woods — who made the cut at plus 1 — had a rocky day, much like the rest of the field. He shot a 6-over 78, his highest score ever at the Masters.
“Well, I was hitting too many putts,” Woods said, laughing. “It was like putting practice out there. I hit 1,000 putts today. Think I had four three-putts and a four-putt. Honestly, I didn’t really think I hit it all that bad. I just had absolutely zero feel for the greens. And it showed.”

Masters live updates, highlights from Saturday’s Round 3
(All times Eastern)
7:21 p.m. — Despite his errant tee shot, Scheffler manages to limit the damage to a bogey. He will enter the final round of the Masters with a three-stroke lead.
7:17 p.m. — Scheffler hits a masterful shot to get the ball just over the green. He will need a great chip-in to save par, but given how far he had to fly the ball to get it near the green, his shot was a terrific one.

7:13 p.m. — After a long process of locating the ball and trying to determine where a drop should take place, Scheffler is getting ready to make his third shot. The drop counted as his second stroke, so he has a lot of work to do to make par on the final hole.

7:07 p.m. — Scheffler’s last drive of the day went awry and landed in the trees. This could pose trouble for him as he looks to take a four-shot lead into Sunday.
7:02 p.m. — Scheffler has moved back to 10-under with a birdie on 17. If he can get a par on the final hole, he will enter Sunday with a four-shot lead.
6:56 p.m. — Scheffler just narrowly avoided the bunker on his second shot at 17th hole. He skipped the ball very close to the hole and will have an excellent chance at a birdie putt to get back to 10-under par.
6:50 p.m. — Charl Schwartzel just three-putted on a Par-3. He had a short but tough par putt and couldn’t make it. He slips to 3-under and fourth place.
6:47 p.m. — Scheffler logs his first par since the 11th hole. He nearly made a very long birdie putt but had a very easy par putt. Meanwhile, Sungjae Im moves to 4-under after making a nice birdie putt on 17.
6:38 p.m. — Scheffler has bogeyed for the third time in his last four holes. It marks his first bogey on a Par-5 during the Masters so far. His lead over Cameron Smith has been cut to three.
6:35 p.m. — Cameron Smith finishes with a par at 18. He shoots a 4-under par 68 and will likely hold sole possession of second place heading into Sunday.
6:34 p.m. — Shane Lowry made a nice sand save on the 16th hole to log a par. However, he hasn’t birdied since the sixth hole and has dropped two strokes over that span putting him seven back of the leader, Sheffler.
6:33 p.m. — There are only seven players currently under par at the Masters, as moving day has been difficult for most of the event’s competitors. They have moved in the opposite direction, with many shooting well over par.
6:18 p.m. — Scottie Scheffler records a bogey on the 14th hole. He has now gone bogey-birdie-bogey on his last three holes and his lead is down to four. He is a 10-under for the tournament.
6:02 p.m. — And Cameron Smith can’t save par on the Par-3 16th hole. He drops a shot and Scheffler’s lead very quickly goes from three back to five.
6:01 p.m. — Scheffler managed to get himself a birdie on the 13th hole despite an errant tee shot. He’s at 11-under once again and has extended his lead to four.

5:56 p.m. — Smith crash-landed in a bunker at the 16th hole. He’ll need to hit a good bunker shot to save par and keep the pressure on Scheffler.
5:54 p.m. — Cameron Smith birdied the 15th hole, which has cut Scheffler’s lead to three. That will put some extra pressure on Scheffler as he finishes up the final six holes of his Saturday.

5:49 p.m. — Both Schwartzel and Scheffler have misfired on the 13th tee. Schwartzel is in the pine straw while Scheffler is on the fairway but doesn’t seem to have an angle at the hole. The Par-5 could prove tricky for the duo, especially Scheffler as he looks to avoid a second consecutive bogey.
5:46 p.m. — Scheffler notches a bogey on the 12th. His lead over Cameron Smith is now down to four strokes.
5:41 p.m. — Scottie Scheffler had a tricky bunker shot on the Par-3 12th hole. He got it out, but it slid off the green. He’ll need a good third shot to minimize any potential damage on this hole.
5:34 p.m. — Schwartzel has dropped a shot on the 11th hole. He is now back down to 5-under par and in sole possession of third place. Scheffler, who got a par on 11, is still at 11-under.
5:23 p.m. — Tiger Woods’ day has come to an end. He shot 6-over on the day and dropped four strokes on the final three holes. He closed the day with a double bogey and struggled on the green Saturday. He is now 7-over par for the tournament, which ties him for 42nd place overall.
5:21 p.m. — Cameron Smith has tied Schwartzel in second place. The two aren’t challenging Scheffler yet for first but they are within striking distance of him at five strokes back.

5:14 p.m. — Scheffler didn’t let Schwartzel’s eagle phase him. He saved par on the 10th hole to stay at 11-under. He’s five shots ahead of Schwartzel now.
5:10 p.m. — Charl Schwartzel just holed out his second shot on the Par-4 10th hole for an eagle. He landed it just beyond the hole and drew in back in to help him leapfrog Cameron Smith and take sole possession of second place.

5:05 p.m. — Conditions are proving difficult on the course Saturday. There are only nine golfers under par for the tournament, and golfers seem to be running into issues on the back-nine. That said, Scheffler continues to perform well and is building a seemingly insurmountable lead.
4:46 p.m. — Cameron Smith has moved back into second place. He is tied with Shane Lowry for the spot behind Scheffler.

4:35 p.m. — Shane Lowry just lipped out a long birdie putt on the eighth hole. Had he sunk it, he would have cut the lead to four once again.
4:34 p.m. — Tiger Woods logged back-to-back birdies on 12 and 13. Corey Conners did the same on 9 and 10 to move to 3-under and tie Charl Schwartzel for fourth place.

4:25 p.m. — Both Scheffler and Charl Schwartzel narrowly missed birdie putts on the seventh hole. Scheffler’s lipped out. He maintains a five-stroke lead on Shane Lowry.
4:09 p.m. — Scheffler’s lead is back up to five strokes. He gets a birdie on the sixth after sinking a long putt. He survived his bump-in-the-road bogey.

4:02 p.m. — Don’t look now, but Shane Lowry may be starting to put some heat on Scottie Scheffler. The Irishman birdied the sixth hole to move to 5-under for the tournament. He’s just four strokes back of Scheffler, who logged a par on the fifth hole.

3:59 p.m. — Tiger Woods managed to birdie the Par-3 12th hole. He’s at 4-over for the tournament, so he’s out of contention, but Woods continues to show flashes in his return from injuries sustained in a February 2021 car accident.
3:54 p.m. — Scheffler followed up two birdies with a bogey to drop back to 9-under. Could this allow some of the other golfers to get back into the mix?
3:35 p.m. — Scheffler is officially at 10-under par. He has broken double digits and has opened up a six-stroke lead. He is showing no signs of slowing down to this point.

3:20 p.m. — Scottie Scheffler continues to play excellent golf. He chipped from just off the green on the Par-5 second to set up an easy birdie putt. He moves his lead back to five strokes ahead of Shane Lowry and Charl Schwartzel.

3:11 p.m. — Will Zalatoris made one of the shots of the tournament so far, sinking this 84-foot chip for a birdie. He is now tied for fifth place at 2-under par.

3:05 p.m. — Scottie Scheffler is off to a good start. He got a par on the first hole before launching a good-looking drive on the second hole.
2:53 p.m. — Collin Morikawa made a nice putt to move to 2-under par for the tournament. However, he missed a par save on the ensuing hole to drop back to 1-under again.

2:50 p.m. — Charl Schwartzel and leader Scottie Scheffler have both officially teed off. Every golfer is now either finished with their round or on the course for Day 3.
2:35 p.m. — Tiger Woods saved par once again after coming up short of the green. He was largely able to do so thanks to this beautiful third shot.

2:27 p.m. — We finally have some movement on moving day. Justin Thomas has shot 2-under through three holes to move into second place. He’s still well behind Scottie Scheffler, but he can put some pressure on the young leader with a strong perfromance.
2:26 p.m. — Kevin Kisner has a beautiful drive.

2:15 p.m. — Woods ended up in the bunker off the Par-3 sixth hole. However, he hit a nice shot from the bunker and nearly holed it, so he looks poised to save par.
2:07 p.m. — Tiger Woods’ is having a tough day with the putter. He just four-putted the fifth hole, missing two short ones before getting a tap in. The double bogey score drops him to 3-over par and 11 back of Scottie Scheffler.
2:05 p.m. — We’re officially 45 minutes away from leader Scottie Scheffler teeing off. He will be paired with Charl Schwartzel. Several of the other notable under-par competitors are teeing off or set to shortly, as Justin Thomas, Hideki Matsuyama and Dustin Johnson will all bear watching on Saturday.
1:59 p.m. — Tiger Woods has hit 12 of his last 14 fairways. His swing off the tee has been solid in his return to golf.
1:47 p.m. — Viktor Hovland is the lone player that has posted a 2-under par score so far today. He has done that through 14 holes, so given the relatively cold temperatures and the gusting wind, we may not see many low scores.
1:44 p.m. — Woods just missed the green at the Par-3 third hole to the left. He avoided the green-side bunker, but he will now have to scramble to make par — barring what would be an incredible chip-in for birdie.
1:31 p.m. — Tiger Woods birdied the second hole. He nearly was able to chip in for an eagle, but he just missed. The tap-in brings him back to even par for the day and 1-over for the tournament.

1:22 p.m. — Woods couldn’t quite reach the green in two on the Par-5 second hole. He came up just short despite a 364-yard drive. He will look for a good chip onto the green to set up a birdie putt.
1:12 p.m. — Woods reached the green in two at the Par-4 first hole, but he three-putted to start with a bogey. He is now sitting at 2-over par for the tournament and 10 strokes off the lead.
1:01 p.m. — Tiger Woods has officially teed off for Round 3 of the Masters. He hit his drive straight off the tee and into the fairway. A good start for him as he looks to get back below par; he begins Saturday’s round at 1-over par.
12:45 p.m. — So far on moving day, Marc Leishman (-2) is shooting the lowest round. Only eight of the 26 golfers on the course are shooting under par while 10 are over par. Four golfers have carded scores of plus-3 or worse to start the day.
10:55 a.m. — Two things to watch during Saturday’s play: the wind isn’t as strong as it was on Friday afternoon, but it could still pose a problem for some of the golfers. Also, the course is drying out a bit on the third day, so that means the greens should play faster than they did to begin the tournament.
10:45 a.m. — We’re off for another beautiful day at Augusta. Four golfers are currently on the course, the most notable of whom is Viktor Hovland. The leaders won’t tee off until later in the day, as Scottie Scheffler will begin at 2:50 p.m. Meanwhile, Tiger Woods will start at 1 p.m. ET.
