Investigations completed in the Tariq Ramadan case
Investigations into Tariq Ramadan’s case have been completed, sources familiar with the matter said. The case dates back to 2017 and concerns charges of “rape” on 5 women.
The Swiss Islamologist will know in the coming weeks whether or not there will be a trial in the case of accusations of rape made by several women who claim to have been victims of “grip” by Tariq Ramadan.
The investigating judges announced the end of the investigations into these accusations and rejected a request for the cancellation of the indictment of Mr. Ramadan.
The July request was rejected “given the imminence of the notice of end of information and a comprehensive review of the evidence collected during all the investigations”, according to a source close of the file, quoted by Afp.
Tariq Ramadan is charged with the rapes of five women and was imprisoned for ten months in 2018. According to him, these were “relationships of domination”, but “consensual”. At the start of the case, he denied having had intimate relations with these women, before going back on his words in the face of evidence of conversations on social networks and on the telephones.
The plaintiffs believe that they have been seduced virtually by Ramadan, and claim that these relationships have materialized in real life, in particular with meetings in hotels.
And while they suffered “rapes” according to their words, they continued to speak with the accused and exchange with him via social networks. According to them, it was because of the “hold” he would have had on them.
An expertise was carried out in this direction, and confirmed this version. But the lawyers of the accused, the plaintiffs evoked “rapes” only because they would have faced “sentimental or sexual disappointments”, they also evoke a “political conspiracy”, against Tariq Ramadan.
