How did the Chiefs beat the Broncos? Walk-off blocked field keeps Kansas City’s perfect season alive
The Chiefs just simply win football games.
Kansas City appeared to be on its way to suffering its first loss on the 2024 season. With one second left on the clock, Denver was lining up for a game-winning field goal try from kicker Will Lutz. All Lutz needed to do was sink the 35-yard field goal to secure a win and silence the Chiefs fans at Arrowhead Stadium.
That’s not what happened. Lutz’s kick never got more than 10 feet off the ground, as linebacker Mike Danna got his hands on the ball, blocking it into the turf and sending the Chiefs into celebratory jubilation.
With the victory, the Chiefs move to 9-0 on the season, picking up an important divisional win in the process. The Broncos drop to 5-5 with the shocking loss.

Chiefs blocked field goal
All the Broncos needed was a field goal from Lutz to be the first team to knock off the Chiefs in 2024. With their reliable kicker facing a 35-yard field goal, victory was in the hands of Sean Payton’s team … until it wasn’t.
Danna’s paw was able to swipe down the field goal try from Lutz, securing yet another win for Kansas City.

The blocked kick marked Lutz’s second missed field goal on the day. The Broncos special teams member was unsuccessful in his 57-yard attempt to close out the first half.
When was the last time the Chiefs lost?
You have to go back to Christmas of last year to find the last time Mahomes & Co. know what losing feels like.
Kansas City suffered a shocking upset loss on Christmas Day last season, losing to Las Vegas 20-14 in a rainy affair at Arrowhead Stadium. The Raiders returned a fumble and an interception for touchdowns en route to the win.
At the time, the loss was a devastating one for the Chiefs. The defeat at the hands of then-rookie Aidan O’Connell eliminated Kansas City’s chances at securing a first-round bye, and there were plenty of questions about the offense.
Since then, the Chiefs have done nothing but win. Kansas City closed out the 2023 regular season with two wins, and then went on to claim Super Bowl 58 over San Francisco. The winning streak continued into the 2024 campaign, as the Chiefs sit at 9-0 entering Week 11.
