France-Presidential: Macron ready to invent a model to satisfy all French people
French President Emmanuel Macron, a candidate for his own re-election, came out on top in the first round, with 28.2% of the vote, ahead of the figure of the far right, Marine Le Pen. In a speech on Sunday, he said he was ready to “invent” a new model to bring together all political convictions in the country.
In front of Marine le Pen, who came second in the first round of the presidential election in France with 22.9% of the vote, Emmanuel Macron delivered a speech addressed to the entire French nation.
“Your confidence honors me, obliges me and commits me,” he declared vis-à-vis the people who voted for him and in front of his activists this Sunday evening.
He also addressed the French who did not vote for him, thanking the unsuccessful candidates for this ballot. “I want to greet all the candidates present in the first round,” he said, before asking his activists to “applaud” them.
He thanked one by one the candidates who clearly expressed their position in favor of his election in the second round, such as Anne Hidalgo, Yannick Jadot, Valérie Pécresse and Fabien Roussel, who called to vote for him in the second round.
For his part, the third candidate in this election, Jean-Luc Mélenchon, who represents the radical left, insisted in his speech “not to give a single voice to Madame Le Pen”, he declared several times, and therefore to vote for Emmanuel Macron, without naming him.
“I invite our fellow citizens, whatever their sensitivities and their choice in the first round, to join us. Some will do it to block the far right and I am aware that it is not worth support, ”said Emmanuel Macron.
“In this decisive moment for the future of the nation, nothing should be as before,” he continued, saying he was ready to create a new model to bring together French people from all political stripes.
“I am ready to invent something new to bring together the various convictions and sensibilities to build with them a common action, at the service of our nation, for the years to come. It is our power”, he said in this sense.
And while observers believe that Marine Le Pen would have a chance of winning the second round, the president indicated that “nothing is decided” for the second round of the French presidential election on April 24.
“The debate that we will have for 15 days will be decisive for our country and for Europe”, he launched in front of his supporters, welcoming the “clarity with regard to the far right” of several eliminated candidates who called to vote for him, and said they were ready to “invent something new” to bring them together.
