CCTV footage stopping immediate Milford return
Anthony Milford‘s hopes of making a quick return to the NRL appear to be a long shot with the NRL set to launch its own investigation into the exiled star’s alleged scuffle outside a Brisbane nightclub.
The 27-year-old’s career is in limbo despite three counts of assault against him being dropped in court on Monday.
Milford pleaded guilty to wilful damage and public nuisance and was ordered to pay nearly $2400 for a car window that he smashed with a wheelie bin. He was also put on a two-year good behaviour bond.

The Sydney Morning Herald reporter Michael Chammas confirmed on Nine’s 100% Footy that while the assault charges, which were holding back Milford’s contract talks, were dropped, the NRL wants to take its own look into what went down.
“I spoke to the NRL and they’re going to launch their own investigation,” Chammas said on 100% Footy.
“Yes the [assault] charges were dropped, but the NRL has the CCTV footage from that night in Fortitude Valley last September.
” … They’re going to look into that. To assume he will get a free ride back into the NRL is probably off the mark.”

Milford was set to join South Sydney on a one-year deal with South Sydney before he was arrested. The NRL refused to register the contract following the police charges.
But the playmaker in recent weeks has been linked to a move to the Knights, whose halves depth this season is low following the departure of Mitchell Pearce.
“It was going to be registered by the NRL for South Sydney, it was about $300,000, but then this happened,” Chammas added.
Cameron Smith reacts to the Cameron Munster situation
“If the talk is right that Newcastle will come for him, the NRL will need to do its due diligence and investigate the matter.
“Because they’ve seen that footage, they don’t think they’re just going to greenlight straight through without any concerns.
“It’s probably unlikely he will end up in South Sydney. They weren’t too impressed with the fact that his representative threatened to take legal action if they didn’t pay him out in full.
“Unfortunately it didn’t end too well with South Sydney.”
