Canadiens’ Drouin has wrist surgery, expected to return for training camp

Montreal Canadiens forward Jonathan Drouin underwent season-ending wrist surgery on Friday and is expected to return at the start of training camp for the 2022-23 campaign.

The Canadiens made the announcement Saturday on social media following the team’s 3-2 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Drouin had 20 points (six goals and 14 assists) in 34 games this season.

The 27-year-old from Ste-Agathe, Que., missed nearly two months due to his wrist injury.

He came back for two games last month until landing in COVID-19 protocols as a close contact of someone who tested positive.

Drouin has one more season remaining on the six-year, $33 million deal he signed shortly after the team acquired him from the Tampa Bay Lightning in June 2017.

The Canadiens (20-41-11) have already been eliminated from the playoffs and are last in the Eastern Conference.
