Canadian Jordan Romano sets Blue Jays record with 26th-straight save

by Adam Said April 12, 2022

Jordan Romano grew up cheering for the Toronto Blue Jays. Now he has earned a spot in the team’s record books.

The Markham, Ont., native grabbed the final three outs of the Jays’ 3-0 win over the New York Yankees Monday, picking up his 26th consecutive save. That broke Tom Henke’s previous franchise-best mark of 25.

Romano, 28, converted 23 saves last season and already has three in 2022.

The 2021 campaign was Romano’s coming out part and his first full 162-game season in the majors. The right-hander made 62 appearances for the Blue Jays in 2021, finishing 43 games and posting a 2.14 ERA with 85 strikeouts. He has three strikeouts in three scoreless appearances this season.

The Blue Jays originally drafted Romano in the 10th round of the 2014 MLB Draft.
