The Victorian government has confirmed the state will host another major football event, with Brazil and Argentina to clash in an international friendly at the MCG.
Less than three weeks after the announcement of Manchester United and Crystal Palace’s Victorian tour in July, the state has locked in another global showcase.
The match between Argentina and Brazil will take place on June 11, ahead of the November-December FIFA 2022 World Cup. Tickets go on sale on Thursday.

Victoria’s Sports and Major Events Minister Martin Pakula confirmed the news on Twitter.
“Superclasico is on!” Pakula tweeted.
The rivalry between the South American football giants is well-documented.
Argentina won last year’s Copa America final against Brazil, 1-0.
The iconic ‘Superclasico’ fixture is no stranger to Australian soil after the two nations played at the MCG in 2017 in front of 95,000 fans.
Argentina won that fixture 1-0 in a match that featured seven-time Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi.
Meanwhile, Sydney’s Accor Stadium will also host a major football event when European football giants Barcelona square off with an A-League Men’s All Stars team on May 25.
