Blue Jays’ Danny Jansen day-to-day with left side soreness
Toronto Blue Jays starting catcher Danny Jansen is being evaluated for left-side soreness and is being considered day-to-day, manager Charlie Montoyo announced Monday.
Jansen’s status for Monday’s game in New York against the Yankees was still undecided but the Blue Jays have two other catchers, Alejandro Kirk and Zack Collins, on their roster. Kirk was listed as the starting catcher and Collins was the designated hitter in Monday’s lineup.
According to Sportsnet’s Arden Zwelling, Montoyo said the soreness was connected to swinging the bat. Jansen was one of the many hot hitters for the Blue Jays in their opening series with the Texas Rangers, recording four hits including two home runs and a double in eight plate appearances.
In other Blue Jays news, right-handed reliever Shaun Anderson is in New York with the team. Montoyo said Anderson is on the taxi squad and spots on both the 40-man roster and 28-man roster would need to be cleared for him to pitch in the majors.
The Blue Jays play their first road game Monday evening in the Bronx against the Yankees. You can watch the game on Sportsnet ONE and SN NOW beginning at 7:07 p.m. ET/ 4:07 p.m. PT.
