Barcelona star agrees contract extension with incredible $543m release clause
Barcelona star Fermin Lopez has committed his future to the club with a bumper contract extension.
Lopez joined Barcelona’s famed La Masia academy from La Liga rivals Real Betis in 2016, before being fast tracked into the first team, ahead of the 2023/24 campaign by former boss Xavi Hernandez.
The versatile 21-year-old netted 11 goals across all competitions last season before going on to win a UEFA Euro 2024 and Olympic Gold double this summer.

The club have been working on a deal to extend his contract since August, with club president Joan Laporta still balancing a delicate financial situation at the club, with more sales planned in 2025.
However, the future of Lopez, alongside fellow rising stars Lamine Yamal, Pedri, Gavi and Pau Cubarsi, have been set as priorities by Laporta as he looks to build a new dynasty at the club.

Despite injuries limiting his match action under Hansi Flick, Barcelona have shown their faith with a contract until 2029, plus an eye-watering release clause now in place.
Lopez’s previous release clause was valued at £336m ($434m) and that has now been increased to £420m ($543m).
