Baitas assures that the government is studying several options for the resolution of this file
The situation of Moroccan students in Ukraine resurfaced, once again, during the weekly press conference, held this Thursday, April 21, at the end of the Government Council.
The parents of Moroccan students in Ukraine held yet another sit-in in front of the headquarters of the Ministry of Higher Education in Rabat on Tuesday, April 19, under the slogan ” Accelerate integration “. Faced with the silence of Abdellatif Miraoui’s department on this file, the parents even called on King Mohammed VI to intervene.
Asked about this point, Mustapha Baitas, government spokesperson, assured that the Executive is studying the different options for the resolution of this file.
” What is happening in Ukraine is that, in some cases, universities are resuming classes remotely, especially in cities where the situation is more or less stable, while several other universities are interrupting and resuming classes depending on the situation. As a result, the last time we spoke on the subject, the situation was not similar to that of today, and according to the developments of the situation at the local level, we observe if there is a resumption of classes or not“, he explained.
Thus, the government spokesperson informed that until April 18, 2022, some 7,206 students, or 70% of the total of students in Ukraine, are students of general medicine, dentistry and pharmacy who have registered on the platform set up by the Ministry of Higher Education.
” Today, several solutions are being studied by the government. And soon we will launch the official implementation of these solutions, among which are possibilities offered at the international level with partner countries such as Romania, Bulgaria or Hungary.e”, confided the Minister, alluding to the integration of Moroccan students from Ukraine into the universities of these three European countries.
In this regard, the government spokesperson indicated that “ the Minister of Higher Education has made several necessary calls in the direction“, emphasizing however that there is” certain difficulties related to the pedagogical notebook and others which are problematic.
” That said, there is a desire on the part of these countries to help Morocco so that these students resume their courses.“, he concluded, without giving an answer as to their integration into Moroccan universities, particularly private ones, instead of sending them abroad.
