Arabic Literature Prize: Let’s go for the 10th edition

Let’s go for the 10th edition of the Arab Literature Prize. The Institute of the Arab World (IMA) and the Jean-Luc Lagardère Foundation announced, this Wednesday, the launch of the call for applications for this award, one of the rare french distinguishing Arab literary creation.

Created in 2013 and endowed with 10,000 euros, the Prize for Arabic Literature promotes the work (novel or collection of short stories) of a writer from the Arab League, author of a work written in Arabic and translated into French (or directly written in French) and self-published between September 1, 2021 and August 31, 2022.

A press release from the organizers indicates that the selection of the six to eight finalist works will be announced at the beginning of September. The works selected will be submitted to the members of the jury – made up of eminent personalities from the world of media, arts and culture, as well as specialists from the Arab world – who will then meet to designate the winner.

Since its creation by the Jean-Luc Lagardère Foundation and the Arab World Institute, the Arab Literature Prize has been awarded in 2013 to Jabbour Douaihy (Lebanon), in 2015 to Mohammed Hasan Alwan (Saudi Arabia), in 2016 to Inaam Kachachi (Iraq), in 2019 to Mohammed Abdelnabi (Egypt), in 2020 to Abdelaziz Baraka Sakin (Sudan) and in 2021 to Jokha Alharthi (Oman) for his novel The Celestial Bodies.

The submission of applications is open until June 30, 2022. For works scheduled for publication after June 30, 2022, publishers may, initially, only send the Foundation the proofs.
